LED High Bay Replacement for Metal Halide Lighting: XJ-HBG100W Used in Australia

LED Light Project News 2170

Project Location: Australia
Application: Indoor Vehicle Area / Industrial Space
Product Model: XJ-HBG100W
Brand: SEEKINGLED

This Australian project started with a common problem. The existing metal halide lamps were still operating, but their light had degraded badly. The color had shifted, surfaces looked dull, and it was becoming difficult to clearly see vehicles in the space. From a safety perspective, that was already a concern.

The initial plan was to test a higher-output LED fixture and adjust from there.

Initial Test and On-Site Feedback

We first installed XJ-HBG130W LED high bays. On paper, the output made sense. Ceiling height and spacing supported it. But once the lights were powered on and the space was used normally, the feedback was immediate: too bright.

That moment mattered. Rather than forcing a redesign or changing fixture quantity, we looked at what flexibility already existed in the system.

Power Adjustment on Site

The XJ-HBG series uses a Meanwell driver with an adjustable output screw. By reducing the power setting, the fixtures were tuned down to 100W. This brought the light level back into a comfortable range without removing or relocating any fixtures.

We also discussed alternatives with the client. A dimmable or DALI driver could achieve the same result with easier control, especially if future adjustments were needed. In this case, the mechanical adjustment was enough.

Comparing Old and New Lighting

Even after reducing power, the difference compared to the old MH system was clear. The previous lamps had turned yellow over time, which flattened contrast and reduced visibility. With the XJ-HBG100W LED High Bay Light configuration, the space appeared clearer and more neutral in tone.

Vehicles, markings, and movement were easier to see. That was the primary requirement from the start.

After Adjustment

Once the power level was fixed, no further changes were requested. The lighting stayed consistent during daily operation, and the client was comfortable with the balance between brightness and visual comfort.

From an engineering standpoint, this LED High Bay Replacement for Metal Halide Lighting project reinforced a simple lesson. Real spaces don’t always behave like calculations. Having adjustable output on site turned a potential issue into a straightforward adjustment.
