XJ-HBS200W Use in a Hockey Field, Canada
Product No.: XJ-HBS200W
This project took place at a hockey field in Canada where the existing lighting system had been running for years with 400W metal halide fixtures. In total, 92 metal halide lights were installed across the field. Over time, energy consumption and maintenance became ongoing concerns for the site operator.
After multiple discussions and technical checks, SEEKINGLED proposed using the XJ-HBS200W LED high bay light as a replacement option. The model selected delivers 140 lm/W, which allowed the project to focus on real light output rather than simply matching wattage numbers.
Before final acceptance, the end user paid close attention to actual Foot-Candle (FC) levels on the field. Lighting tests were carried out with all XJ-HBS200W fixtures dimmed to 50% output. The measured FC levels were comparable to those produced by the original 400W metal halide lamps. This point was critical for approval, as the field is used for organized hockey activities and requires consistent lighting.
With the lights operating at half power, the system achieved energy savings of up to 75% compared to the previous setup. This reduction was one of the main reasons the solution was accepted. At the same time, the lighting layout remained unchanged, which helped simplify installation and commissioning.
Another practical aspect of this project is flexibility. For daily use or training sessions, the lights stay at reduced output. When professional games or higher lighting levels are required, the output can be increased easily through wattage adjustment. This avoids running the system at full power when it is not necessary.
Compared with metal halide lighting, the LED high bays also eliminate warm-up time and frequent lamp replacement. This is especially useful in colder Canadian conditions, where metal halide performance can be inconsistent.
This hockey field project is a straightforward example of how SEEKINGLED XJ-HBS200W high bays can be applied in real sports lighting upgrades, focusing on measured performance, controllable output, and long-term energy reduction rather than theoretical specifications.
