In hazardous environments, even one non-certified or low-quality explosion-proof light can become the spark that triggers a disaster. Many serious accidents throughout history were directly caused by using ordinary or uncertified lighting.
Real Accidents Caused by Non-Certified Lights

2020 Watson Grinding Explosion in Houston, Texas, USA
On January 23, 2020, a welding hose came loose inside a coating workshop at Watson Grinding, causing a large amount of flammable propylene gas to leak and build up in the enclosed space. The next morning, an employee walked in and turned on a regular indoor light (not explosion-proof). The spark from the light instantly ignited the gas, causing a massive explosion. The blast killed 2 employees and 1 nearby resident, damaged over 450 buildings, and eventually forced the company into bankruptcy. The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) investigation clearly stated that the non-certified ordinary light was the main ignition source.
2010 Liaoyang Petrochemical Crude Oil Tank Explosion, China
During tank cleaning operations, workers used regular non-explosion-proof lights. Residual flammable hydrocarbon gas inside the tank was ignited by sparks from the lighting equipment, causing a violent explosion. The accident killed 5 people and injured 5 others. It clearly showed how dangerous non-certified lights can be in explosive environments.

Common Technical Dangers of Non-Certified Explosion-Proof Lights:

The explosion-proof joints are not precise enough, so they can’t contain the pressure of an internal explosion — flames and hot gas escape.
The surface temperature exceeds safe limits (T1–T6), turning the light itself into a dangerous heat source.
Poor protection rating (IP), allowing gas, vapor, or dust to enter the light and cause an internal explosion.
Electrical parts have no proper spark suppression, so sparks are easily generated when turning on/off or during faults.

Serious Consequences of These Accidents
These real incidents often lead to tragic chains of events: loss of life, huge financial losses, insurance companies refusing to pay, long project shutdowns, legal lawsuits, and severe damage to the company’s reputation. The final cost of one accident is almost always far higher than the money saved by buying cheap, uncertified lights.
Important Safety Warning:
In high-risk industries, choosing non-certified explosion-proof lights may seem like a way to save money — but it can lead to irreversible disasters.
