In 2024, SEEKINGLED participated in a lighting upgrade project for several Sam’s Club supermarket locations. The goal was straightforward but not simple: improve overall brightness in a large-format retail space while keeping glare under control and avoiding the “warehouse feeling” that customers often complain about.
The project used two models from the HBC series, XJ-HBC150W and XJ-HBC200W, both configured as LED high bay lights for supermarket lighting. These models were selected after reviewing ceiling height, aisle width, shelf layout, and daily operating hours.
Sam’s Club stores are not standard retail shops. Ceiling heights are high, aisles are wide, and shelves block light if the layout is not planned properly. Traditional panel lights or low-power fixtures simply cannot reach the floor evenly without using excessive quantities.
From an engineering point of view, high bay LED fixtures make more sense here. They allow wider spacing, higher mounting heights, and better control of vertical and horizontal illumination. In this case, a mixed layout was used:
The higher wattage units were mainly installed in open areas and main aisles, while the 150W version covered secondary zones and shelf-dense sections.
One detail that mattered more than expected was the PC lampshade. Clear lenses can push brightness, but they also create harsh reflections when customers look up at signage or top shelves. The PC diffuser softened the output without killing efficiency.
After installation, measured values showed around 600 LUX at floor level and approximately 100 LUX at ceiling level, which fits well with supermarket lighting standards. More importantly, the light felt even. There were no obvious bright spots or dark gaps between aisles.
Staff feedback confirmed this during daily operations. Restocking teams reported better visibility during early morning shifts, and customers spent more time in aisles without the usual complaints about glare.
From a maintenance standpoint, the LED high bay system reduced lamp replacement frequency compared with the previous setup. Thermal performance remained stable during long operating hours, which is critical in stores that run lights for most of the day.
Energy consumption was also reduced, but this was treated as a result, not the only objective. The priority was visual quality and consistency across the sales floor.
Sam’s Club management responded positively to the upgrade, especially regarding the improved shopping atmosphere. The lighting no longer feels industrial, despite the scale of the space. Products are clearly visible, signage stands out, and the overall environment feels cleaner and more comfortable.
This project shows how LED high bay light for supermarket lighting works best when it is treated as a system solution rather than a simple fixture swap.
